There are many types of warts. Warts are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) however different strains are responsible for their development. Warts are easily caught and transmitted from person to person.

Warts are:

benign growths that can appear on various parts of the body (hands, fingers, knuckles, elbows, knees, feet, and face)
often painless however can become sensitive with friction or pressure
can disappear on their own however some last many years and can be painful depending on location
appearance: small, round bumps or clusters, that have a firm, rough texture. Can be raised or flat and vary in colour

Plantar Warts (Verrucae Plantaris):

specifically occur on the soles of the feet
usually flat, with a hard layer of thickened skin covering them and vary in size
typically found on weight-bearing areas such as the heels or balls of the feet
can cause pain/discomfort when walking or standing
are highly contiguous

Plantar Warts can be very stubborn to treat and may require multiple sessions or combinations of treatments to fully resolve. Even if treated successfully, the virus remains in the body meaning new lesions can develop.
